  Billionaires Paradise Virgin

  Chapter 1

Sunlight slanted across the clear blue sea as the magnificent La Seu cathedral loomed in the distance. Derek Serrano yawned at the glorious sight of Palma de Mallorca in the early morning and rolled over.

He passed the next couple of hours rolling around listlessly in the huge bed in his spectacular yacht. Another day in freaking paradise.

This was the kind of incredible life that most people would kill for and he didn’t have the energy to even look out the window to see the Spanish Royal Family’s boat as he entered the bay.

Finally, the yacht was anchored and the crew went onto dry land. They knew better than to disturb the boss when he was in one of his funny moods so they left him all alone and went off to explore the island of Majorca without him.

He put a soft, plump pillow over his head to drown out their cheery laughter as they walked past the yacht. In this moment he felt more completely alone and adrift from the world than ever before.

As the gentle swaying motion of the yacht rocked him back off to sleep, Derek had a troubled dream about the day his life had changed. It was the same dream he had gone through several times lately, where his parents disappeared into a massive black hole or crater while he just looked on and laughed while counting their money.

He was only 19 when his uncle broke the news to him that both his parents had died in a traffic accident. He hadn’t shed a single tear that day or in the 5 years that had passed since then.

Suddenly, he was in charge of a global business empire and had a bank account that seemed to grow every single time he looked at it. The first couple of days he had just looked on in stunned silence at everything he now owned and wondered how to start spending so much money.

He had never asked for all this responsibility and he felt lost, so he made the decision there and then to put on a show for the world of being frivolous and distant. After this, his public image had slowly but surely taken him over and he no longer knew who he was or what he really wanted.

The next few years after the day he got handed the reins of the business empire were all a bit of a blur, as he spent a fortune on clothes, foreign trips, drinks, drugs and women. If this was the good life that everyone dreamed of then why did it feel so hollow and pathetic?

The buzzing of his phone woke him up. The diamonds on the phone casing glittered under the harsh Mediterranean sun. 18 messages, at least 10 of which were probably from Louise, the fashion model that he had spent a fortune on but was now bored of. None of the messages were from people he cared about.

Bored. That was going to be the word of the day. In the last month he had yawned his way through the best that the dazzling Mediterranean had to offer him. Monte Carlo was a drag, Corsica was as dull as dishwater and the least said about Barcelona the better.

Still, his next stop after here was Ibiza, where at least he could go clubbing to famous DJs all night long and maybe try out some new ways to feel happy. Perhaps the infamous party island would be the place where he finally felt alive and excited about life again. Probably not, though.

It was late in the afternoon before he finally walked down and felt the Majorcan soil under his feet for the first time. He felt inexplicably irritated to see that there were at least 4 yachts in the port that were bigger and more luxurious than his.

The city was crowded, as it was the height of summer and a giant cruise ship was moored nearby, spilling out tourists who were eager to see all that they could before rushing back on to go to their next destination. The young billionaire was surrounded by thousands of people but had never felt so utterly alone in his life.

As he wandered along the streets in a bubble all of his own, Derek felt an intense loathing for Majorca and the people in it. He was expecting a millionaire’s playground filled with bored tycoons just like him but all he saw were common holidaymakers doing vulgar things on their annual holidays and laughing a lot.

The sun was wonderfully warm and gentle at this time of day and many people were wandering about still in their beach clothes. The atmosphere was of a relaxed and friendly city as the sun began to descend behind the cathedral. Unlike Derek, no-one else seemed to have any cares or troubles on their mind.

The shops were doing a great trade in postcards, ice creams, souvenirs and everything else a tourist with time to kill could want to spend some Euros on. Derek felt a pang of envy as he saw a young family happily playing with a ball while the parents held hands and looked at each other as though they were in a blissful dream.

He began to get a pounding headache, just as he had in Corsica and Barcelona. This wasn’t helped by the confusing mix of languages he could hear, as Spanish mingled with English, German and something that he assumed was a local dialect.

Once he reached the main plaza the crowds just got thicker. The enclosed plaza was filled with restaurants and shops, giving it a claustrophobic feel that caused the restless billionaire to head straight out of it in search of something more his style.

In fact, he almost bowled over a waiter who offered him a special offer on paella as he hurried out of the plaza. He rudely barged past a group of teenagers in his blind panic to get out of this suffocating plaza.

The next half hour passed by painfully, as he bumped into annoying crowds of people everywhere he went. He took a bit of respite in the giant El Corte Ingles store and bought a light jacket from his favourite designer. The crowds were lighter in here but there was only so long he could wander about looking at clothes and accessories before going back out onto the streets.

Derek finally felt slightly calmer as he discovered a series of narrow, winding streets that appeared to him more like North Africa than Spain. He had read nothing about the city before getting here, so he had no idea where he was now or where he was going but it felt like the old part of the city from medieval times.

These lovely streets were strangely deserted and the billionaire felt as though he had been transported back in time. What would it have been like to live in a simpler age when there were no mobile phones, Skype conferences with the company board or 24 hour news channels to keep him informed of the current share prices?

The vague memory of playing a board game with his parents flashed into his head, causing a heavy feeling of sadness to settle over him. He wasn’t even sure if it was a real memory or not but if it was then it much have been one of the few times that they had done something fun together.

His parents were just a distant memory of two people who were sometimes there for him but usually weren’t. Instead, a revolving cast of cooks, cleaners and nannies were his only company for much of his early years.

Derek felt a flush of shame burn through him as he realised that the death of his parents hadn’t caused him the slightest bit of grief. What had happened to the boy who had once cried for 5 straight days when his pet hamster had disappeared from his cage?

Would I be happier if I gave it up all tomorrow? He asked himself the question knowing that he was too gutless to even answer it in his own head. Giving up everything that had fallen into his lap simply wasn’t the answer.

No, what he needed to settle down was a good woman to share his yacht and huge mansion with him. She would need to be from a reputable family, preferably minor European royalty. They might even buy a castle together with deer in the grounds and a distant view of the Alps.

On some level, Derek was fully aware that he would never find happiness living with a Duchess or Baroness in
a fairy-tale castle. However, the idea made him feel better about his future. Growing old alone and isolated from the world was the fear that he simply couldn’t bring himself to put into words.

Occasionally he caught a glimpse of the giant cathedral from between the buildings and he eventually wandered over to it. The doors were open and he wavered only slightly before going in.

He hadn’t prayed in years but some deep rooted need caused him to sit down and bow his head. The words tumbled out of his mouth as he muttered a softy but heartfelt plea to a God he didn’t believe in. Somehow, he felt relieved – cleansed even – as he got up to walk out of the cathedral.

By the time the screen on his ostentatious phone showed 9 o’clock he was back in bed watching the news channels. Palma de Mallorca had been massively disappointing and he couldn’t understand why people looked so happy to be here, taking silly selfies and eating ice cream as though it was going out of fashion.

Tomorrow he would look for a different kind of experience by going to one of the best bars in the city and getting hopelessly drunk. With any luck he would forget about everything else on his mind for a couple of hours.

Another message from Louise popped onto his phone’s screen. He sighed deeply and switched it off. Being one of the world’s most eligible bachelors had plenty of downsides that no-one would believe if he told them.

A few minutes later Derek grinned for the first time in days as he looked at himself in the mirror. There was no doubt that he had let himself go a bit with all the fine food and drink he treated himself too. However, he spent just enough time with a personal trainer in his private gym at home to stay in decent shape.

He was sure that there was no woman in the world who could resist the combination of his looks and wealth. But wasn’t that part of the problem? As soon as a woman found out how rich he was there was no challenge anymore.

The bed was as luxuriously soft as ever when he threw himself down on it. However, he could have been lying on a cloud high up in the heavens and he would still have found sleep difficult to come by that night.

  Chapter 2

Lucy couldn’t help letting out a little squeal of delight as she skipped down the last step onto the sand. She had carried out the same early morning ritual every day since she got to Majorca and it hadn’t lost its appeal yet.

As the sun slowly started to climb higher, she walked along the edge of the sea so that the water just lapped softly against her feet. This was her favourite part of the day, as the temperature began to gradually rise and she had the long beach all to herself for a while.

To think that she had almost turned down the chance to come here and work for a few months in the summer. Her friend Anna had done the same thing last year and had spent weeks trying to convince Lucy that it was a good idea.

If she was being honest, her first impressions of the island weren’t all that great. She had never been far from her home town in the north of England before, so he felt very far from home once she arrived and realised that she was now in a completely different world.

Yet, there were so many lovely people here who had taken care of her. Her new boss in the bar was so sweet and the mixture of people from all round the world working there was amazing.

The young girl giggled as she looked down at her bare legs, which were starting to get a bit of a tan about them for the first time in her life. Who would have thought that shy little Lucy Devine would be wandering about all day with just a bikini on like a celebrity in a magazine?

Wearing a bikini was one of the first big challenges of living in Majorca. It was far too hot during the day to wear anything else but she was incredibly embarrassed at first, as she had never shown off her body like this before.

It was a sign of how far she had come that yesterday she had taken up Anna’s dare and gone topless on the beach for a few minutes. Her hands were shaking as she took off her top but she had to admit that it was an incredible feeling to have the sun caressing here all over while the young guys looked over at her hungrily.

Of course, her parents had been terrified that their little girl was going to work in the notorious party spot at Magalluf. They had seen the sensationalist news stories about drunken escapades and embarrassing sexual adventures during the summer here. What would their innocent little 18 year old daughter get up to in a place like that?

Yet Anna – whom they had always seen as being bright and sensible – somehow managed to convince them it wasn’t really like this. She told them that summer here was all about working hard and that loads of people came here just to save up some money, with no time or energy to think about much else.

Lucy could now see that this was pretty much true. Like the hundreds of other temporary summer workers here, she was already tired from working long hours every day in the heat.

Yet, it couldn’t be denied that there was something about Magalluf that drove people a bit crazy. The sight of so many hunky guys wearing nothing but skimpy shorts all day long was beginning to make her thoughts wander during the day. A lot.

Oh my God! She blushed as she remembered the stag night that had been in the bar the other night. All 8 or 9 of them were outrageously drunk and doing stuff she had never seen anyone do before. She had pretended to look away when they all dropped their shorts in unison but even now she could feel herself getting breathless as she remembered what she had seen for the first time in her life.

Anna had told her that she was best getting a boyfriend from among the guys who worked here rather than the holidaymakers who would soon be gone and probably had girlfriends back home anyway. The Swedes were an especially good bet according to her friend, who had her eye on a blonde hunk from Gothenburg.

She had reached the big hotel which marked the spot where she turned around and headed home for a shower every morning. The sun was now shining more brightly and she could see some tourists starting to wander down to look for their breakfast.

As she felt the wet sand giving way gently under her feet, Lucy felt that her life was changing in some subtle way. Some of her old school friends had mocked and said that she was going to “become a woman” while she was here for a few months.

Well, she certainly felt that she was becoming more mature and learning how to look after herself better. In the first week she had gone a bit crazy by only eating fast food and drinking far too much vodka.

Now she was looking after herself a lot better and even getting some exercise too. She had also managed to save up a bit of money, as the tips here were unbelievable and she spent very little money.

The waves were now lapping slightly further up the beach, giving Lucy a refreshing slap against her bare legs that she loved. This was paradise to her but she couldn’t imagine living here all year round like a few of the Brits that she had met.

No, by the time the summer season was drawing to a close she would be back home. Hopefully she would have saved up enough money to buy an old car that she could use once she passed her driving test.

Apart from that, she had no idea what she was going to do with her life. A dark mood suddenly settled over Lucy as she remembered the depressing weather and lack of opportunities in the town where she grew up.

Coming here had opened her eyes to the world and made her feel all cosmopolitan. The other night she had felt giddy at the thought of going to work in London or going to work in a ski resort like some of her bar colleagues did when the season here ended. Some of them even planned to go to Thailand during the winter season before coming back here again when the hotels and bars opened next year.

The world seemed like a huge and very exciting place. She had never before considered all of the possibilities open to her but now she felt dizzy just thinking about all of the things that she could do.

By the time she saw the pool at the front of her hotel, Lucy’s mood had lightened considerably again. All she could do for the moment was enjoy her little slice of paradise and see where it led her to.

  If nothing e
lse, she was going to have a hell of a time in the next couple of months. What more could she ask for?

  Chapter 3

The hot, sticky feel was something that Lucy was getting used to but tonight seemed especially stifling in the bar. A new crowd of tourists has arrived that day and they were clearly ready to make the most of their holidays from the very first moment.

The music was pumping out something from Enrique Iglesias about “bailar contigo, vivir contigo” and the still, Mediterranean air felt incredibly exotic. Yet, there was something weird about being in this strange setting and hearing mainly British accents all around her.

She had decided to wear her tiniest bikini and a pair of shorts that would have caused her parents to faint if they had seen them. At first she thought that she might have felt awkward wearing such skimpy clothes to work but she soon found that she got a strange thrill out of it.

The clock on the wall showed 10pm but the night was already looking like it was going to be the craziest of her time here yet. A big group of lads had been watching football in the corner and were now singing lewd songs that drowned out poor Enrique.

The feeling of being somewhere boisterous and almost debauched hit her again as one of the guys went out to vomit onto the sand. Lucy made a mental note to be careful where she stepped on her morning walk tomorrow.

The bar was filled with cigarette smoke, which Lucy realised she had never before inhaled in such quantities. The few times that she had gone to her local pub back home she hadn’t seen a single person smoking but here the air was thick and it was starting to make her slightly dizzy.

Across the haze she saw a new customer walk in. He was tall and attractive but looked a bit too well dressed to be a typical package holiday visitor. Lucy had a habit of giving funny names to her customers so she immediately dubbed him the “little lost prince” because of the way he looked so posh and disoriented.

Derek sat down at a table on his own near the window. His head was spinning after having spent a few hours drinking expensive cognac in a casino in Palma. He had lost more money than most people earn in a year but he just laughed and left a few big tips as he went out.
